Super Bowl Xxi : Notebook

January 26, 1987|From Staff and Wire Reports

The way Giant running back Joe Morris was talking afterward, it was as if the Giants had been underdogs instead of favorites. But then, there have been a lot of great expectations about this team.

"No more grass problems," he said, listing the downfalls critics have thrown at the Giants in the past. "No more 'We can't win the big one.' We got this one ourselves. No one gave us anything. This team held together. Our quarterback (Phil Simms) showed what kind of player he was today. He rallied us back and we won with him.

"We've won close games and come from behind all year. That's a sign of maturity. We're the best there is--this year."
