February 02, 1987

The government of American Samoa is seeking canned foods and cash to help victims of a hurricane that ravaged three islands Jan. 17. Hurricane Tusi, packing winds of 80 m.p.h., hit the islands of Ofu, Olosega and Tau, causing an estimated $100 million in damage and leaving about 2,000 people homeless.

At least 30 Samoans, who are American nationals by birth, were injured, including 12 seriously enough to require hospitalization.

Contributions may be sent to the Office of Samoan Affairs; 1007 E. Dominguez St., Suite J; Carson, Calif. 90746.
