Pasadena : School Repairs Studied

February 19, 1987

The Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education has begun studying the possibility of starting a 20-year, $4.2-million capital improvements project to repair the district's deteriorating school buildings.

Robert Sampieri, deputy superintendent for personnel and business, said the project would include repairing old roofs, upgrading laboratories and auditoriums, improving lighting and resurfacing playgrounds.

He said the board is considering paying for the project with certificates of participation, which are similar to bonds. The certificates may be paid off using the earning from an endowment fund created through the sale of 16 acres of surplus district land, worth $9.2 million, he said.
