The State

February 19, 1987

A Bakersfield Municipal judge denied bail for Kern County Sheriff's Deputy David Keith Rogers, 40, who pleaded innocent to charges of murdering two alleged prostitutes and leaving their bodies in a canal. Judge John L. Fielder set March 3 for a preliminary hearing. Investigators said Rogers told them he shot one of the women when she demanded more money and began hitting him. Deputies said the .38-caliber revolver apparently used in both killings was found in Rogers' apartment.
