Beverly Hills : Award for Letter-Carriers Set

February 26, 1987

The sixth Community Service Award for Excellence in Postal Service will be presented to a Beverly Hills letter carrier during the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce Community Awards breakfast on April 23 at the Beverly Hilton.

Nominations for the award are being accepted. A detailed description of extraordinary service by a letter carrier in Beverly Hills should be sent to the postmaster, Beverly Hills 90213.

The award was established six years ago by the chamber and Beverly Hills resident Margaret Marketa Novak in appreciation of letter-carrier John R. Bauer. Novak nominated Bauer because of his extra care in delivering letters from her son, Leon, a developmentally handicapped person and a resident student at Devereux School in Santa Barbara. Even though the letters were often illegibly and incompletely addressed to "Mrs. Mom, Beverly Hills," Bauer always delivered them to the Novak home.
