Dragomir Djurdjevic, a Yugoslav inventor, said he has found a way to prevent Italy's Leaning Tower of Pisa from eventually toppling over. The retired engineer from Zagreb told reporters he would build a cylinder of concrete through the middle of the tower, insert weights into the face opposite the direction of tilt, and strengthen the foundations. The concrete cylinder would make the tower more rigid without harming its appearance, he said. Djurdjevic's theory was in reply to Italy's recent invitation to international experts to offer solutions for saving the 150-foot tower, which is 15 feet out of perpendicular and leans a further millimeter each year on average.
