BRIEFLY

Coffee prices again tumbled on world markets.

March 05, 1987

The decline came as producer and consumer nations failed this week to agree on new export quotas to tighten up an oversupplied market. Arabica coffee for May delivery slipped to $1.04 on New York markets Wednesday morning, against Tuesday's opening at more than $1.20 a pound. As recriminations flew between coffee-producing nations and consumers over who was to blame for the impasse, commodity analysts said the failure of the International Coffee Organization members to agree on quotas could push coffee prices down to 80 cents a pound this year.
