Tony Trevino and Keith Kaub hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning Wednesday and Cal State Fullerton went on to defeat United States International University, 13-4, in a nonconference game played on the Gulls' field at San Diego.
USIU starter Roddy Wilburn walked 10 batters and allowed 9 runs in 3 innings. Bobby Jones also homered in the ninth inning for Fullerton (10-8) and the game was then called by the umpire, who thought that USIU reliever Sean Rydell had intentionally thrown a pitch at Titan hitter Jim Osborn.
In other nonconference action:
Southern California College 3, La Verne 2--Jeff Motske reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the ninth inning and later scored on a two-out throwing error to lift the Vanguards (5-9) to the win at home.
Joe Holden had an RBI single for SCC's first run in the fourth, and Matt Kanopsios, who had two hits, knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Starter Josh Johnston allowed one run on seven hits through eight innings, but Mike Lomeli, who relieved in the ninth, picked up the victory.
