Cindy Brown had 21 points and 12 rebounds and Penny Toler added 20 points Friday to lead No. 4-ranked Cal State Long Beach to a 108-74 victory over San Diego State in a semifinal game of the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. women's basketball tournament in the Forum at Inglewood.
Long Beach (29-2), which led, 59-32, at halftime, will meet Nevada Las Vegas in the tournament final at 11 today. San Diego State, which had upset second-seeded Hawaii in the first round, finished 13-16.
The Aztecs trailed only 25-21 with 8:45 remaining in the first half when sophomore forward Jessica Haynes went to the bench with her fourth foul. That sparked a 34-11 run by the 49ers before halftime.
"The foul trouble Jessica got in the first half killed us," SDSU Coach Earnest Riggins said. "Taking her out of our lineup hurts in so many ways."
Haynes finished the game with 10 points on 2-of-15 shooting. Brooke Meadows led the Aztecs with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Lisa Stevens added 16 points.
"Long Beach's pressure defense was the difference," Riggins said. "They wear you down, and then we made some mistakes."
