Bill Rodgers won the 20-kilometer race in the Newark Distance race at Newark, N.J.

Rodgers, 39, of Boston, finished the course in 1 hour 2 minutes 56 seconds, followed by Ringo Adamson, 32, of Glassboro, N.J., in 1:04:49, and Matt Makowski, 27, of Millburn, N.J., in 1:07:04.

Marilyn Hulak, 28, of New York was the fastest woman in 1:16:38, followed by Doreen Schwarz, 30, of Bloomfield, N.J., in 1:18:54, and Sue Carden, 26, of Stroudsburg, Pa., in 1:20:12.
