For the first time in five years, income at the nation's resident nonprofit theaters rose faster than operating costs last year, according to a new survey of regional theater groups. "Theater Facts '86" by the New York-based Theater Communications Group says that 45 theater groups--including the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles--reduced their aggregate deficit from almost $2.4 million in 1985 to $333,000 in 1986.
