Mario Lemieux scored three goals to reach a career high for one season and lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 6-3 victory over the Quebec Nordiques Thursday night at Pittsburgh.

Lemieux scored two empty-net goals in the final 1:09, giving him 51 goals in 53 games. He had 48 last season.

Pittsburgh rallied from a 3-1 deficit late in the second period to tie the score on goals by Moe Mantha and Lemieux. Then Dan Frawley scored the tie-breaking goal for the Penguins early in the third period.

Quebec's Michel Goulet missed a penalty shot that would have tied the score with 2:27 left in the game. Referee Terry Gregson called for the shot when Randy Cunneyworth threw his stick in an effort to stop Goulet on a breakaway.

N.Y. Rangers 6, Philadelphia 1--Don Maloney recorded goals eight seconds apart in the third period, and Tomas Sandstrom also scored twice to lift the Rangers past the Flyers at Philadelphia.

Marcel Dionne had his 25th goal of the season in his second game after the Kings traded him to the Rangers Tuesday.

Boston 6, St. Louis 4--Ray Bourque collected two goals and an assist at Boston to reach the 600-point plateau as the Bruins ended the Blues' seven-game unbeaten streak.
