An explosion and fire ripped through a junior high school in Morganton, N.C., while an evening basketball game was in progress in an adjacent building, but no injuries were immediately reported, police said. The school was destroyed, an official said. The blast, which may have occurred in a science laboratory at Salem Junior High School, also blew out doors and windows at a nearby elementary school and destroyed several cars.
