Orange Coast 14, Saddleback 5--Joey James hit a three-run home run in the third, his sixth of the season, to lead the Pirates (1-0, 14-4) at Saddleback.

James went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and scored two runs. Teammate Mike Misuraca went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Jim Foley (4-1) gave up 4 hits and 8 walks and struck out 3 in 5 innings, and Jim Dedrick gave up two hits and struck out one in the final 3 innings for the save.

Jason Nigro went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Gauchos (0-1, 5-6).

In the South Coast Conference:

Golden West 20, Compton 1--George Lazalde, Darrin Tomasick and Dave Solorzano each had three hits to lead the Rustlers (5-3, 9-5) at Huntington Beach.

Steve Watson (3-2) gave up 3 hits, struck out 5 and walked 3 in five innings for Golden West.

Keith Lazlo, Jeff Grant, Sal Capraro and Terry Reichart all tripled in the eighth inning for the Rustlers.

Long Beach City 8, Fullerton 2--Ed Fern (2-2) allowed 11 hits and 2 walks and struck out 5 in 7 innings for the Vikings (5-3, 8-8) at Long Beach City. Anthony Toney went 2 for 2 with a stolen base and Ed Pimentel doubled in three runs for Long Beach City in the fifth.

Emmitt Cohick went 4 for 5 with two runs, a double and a stolen base for Fullerton (6-2, 10-5-1).
