Lawndale : New Title, Times at City Hall

March 19, 1987

The City Council approved a name change for one of its departments and changed operating hours at City Hall.

The Leisure and Social Services Department will now be called Recreation and Community Services. Brady Cherry, department director, said the word leisure is uncommon and not readily understood by the public. He said "recreation" is more universal. Cherry had sought to change "social service" to "human services," but the council said "community services" better describes the department's activities.

City Hall hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. instead of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., effective April 6. The City Council last year expanded the hours to give city employees flexible working shifts. City Manager Paul Phillips said cutback reflects hours that department heads are available.
