The Palm Springs City Council approved a $155,000 appropriation to augment the city's 85-member police force with 40 additional officers from the California Highway Patrol and Riverside County Sheriff's Department during Easter Week, April 10 to 20. Police Chief Tom Kendra requested the additional manpower to help prevent a repeat of last year's mini-riot, which involved some of the 15,000 college students celebrating the spring break at the desert resort.
