Mel Brooks has spent 2 1/2 years working on "Spaceballs" and has managed to conjure up the character "Princess Vespa from the Planet Druidia" so he can refer to her as a Druish Princess ("Blazing Heavens," by Patrick Goldstein, March 8).
Again Brooks has dipped into his outdated bag of dumb jokes. His (along with other writers and directors) nasty use of Jewish women as negative characters for comedic purposes will earn Brooks the same distinction as film makers in the '30s and '40s who found humor characterizing blacks as stupid and lazy in order to counterpoint their witty and urbane central characters.
