Shultz, Nixon Discuss Soviets

March 26, 1987|Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State George P. Shultz, preparing for his talks next month in Moscow, called in an experienced Kremlinologist today--former President Richard M. Nixon.

"It's part of his consultations," a U.S. official, who demanded anonymity, said of the session quietly set for late afternoon in Shultz's seventh-floor office at the State Department. Nixon, who rarely appears in Washington, talks regularly by telephone with President Reagan, offering his advice on U.S. foreign policy, especially relations with the Soviet Union.
