U.S.-Israel and Spy Case

March 29, 1987

As the Pollard spying investigation continues, I become more and more angered and bewildered. As an American of Jewish ancestry, I was extremely embarrassed that an American Jew stole classified U.S. military documents and gave or sold them to Israel. That there have been cases in the past involving Americans of a particular ethnic background spying on the United States for the country of their ethnic background did not lessen my embarrassment.

What has transformed my embarrassment and anger into total bewilderment and outrage is the attempted rationalization and excusing of Pollard's activities by some top Israeli government officials and their hesitancy to investigate the Israeli government's role in the spying affair, and the arrogant promotion of one of the suspected key players in the Pollard affair within the Israeli military.
