Unfortunately, Too Many Others Share Mr. Campanis' View

April 09, 1987

Hard to believe, but Al Campanis has found another way to slap baseball fans in the face. Sports' answer to Ronald Reagan claims that black athletes have not paid their dues. That shows that racism is alive and well in America.

How can the man who has traded away enough talent to field an all-star team, yet who keeps a bloated farce of a manager on his payroll, question anyone's inherent ability or skills?

As for "natural buoyancy", it's a problem he'll never encounter, I'm sure; a head as fat as his could never sink.
