KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jan Goossens had five goals and one assist Saturday night to lead the Kansas City Comets to an 8-6 Major Indoor Soccer League victory over Wichita, clinching second place in the league's Western Division and a home-field advantage in the playoffs.
After Tasso Koutsoukos' power-play goal in the third quarter gave the Comets a 4-2 lead, the Wings were awarded a penalty kick, which Kim Roentved made to put Wichita within one, 4-3.
But Goossens scored two goals and Koutsoukos one early in the fourth quarter, giving the Comets a 7-3 lead.
The Wings then pulled their goalie for a sixth attacker and Barry Wallace, Mark Kerlin and Dave Hoggan scored three straight goals to make it 7-6. Goossens then added his last goal of the game, a club record 50th of the season.
Kansas City is 27-24, and Wichita is 27-25.
