Ministers and community groups staged weekend rallies and block parties in an effort to reclaim several Oakland neighborhoods from drug traffickers. The Rev. E. L. Thomas of Solid Rock Baptist Church said the events were prompted by a drug problem "so bad we have to lock the doors when we have prayer meetings," and conceded that ridding the area of drugs would be a rough, uphill battle.
