MARTINEZ — A house that famous naturalist John Muir lived in from 1880 to 1890 was destroyed in a blaze apparently caused by an electrical malfunction, authorities said.

The Friday fire caused $140,000 in damage to the two-story wood structure, but "you can't calculate the historical value," Fire Inspector Gene Martin said.
