Hernell (Jeep) Jackson and a teammate on the University of Texas El Paso basketball team used cocaine the night before Jackson's death, according to El Paso police reports.
According to a police search warrant, Jackson, the other player and several unidentified people went to Jackson's apartment at about 8:30 p.m. May 1 with the intention of using cocaine.
Jackson, 23, collapsed and died May 2 during an exhibition game at Ft. Bliss. Police suspect cocaine use was the cause of death, but toxicology and other laboratory tests on Jackson's body have not been completed.
Police detective Joe Garcia, who signed the search warrant, said police have talked to sources who described the cocaine use.
