Apprentice jockey Kent Desormeaux, a 17-year-old from Louisiana, rode six winners at Pimlico Race Course. The leading single-day riding accomplishment at Pimlico was Paul Nicol's seven victories in nine mounts on June 8, 1983. Desormeaux started the day by winning the second race and followed that with first-place finishes in the fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth and 10th.
