May 21, 1987|Associated Press

TOKYO — Three American lawyers today became the first foreign attorneys permitted to practice in Japan under a new law that took effect April 1, a Justice Ministry official said.

The three are Edward Frank Greene, 45, and Robert Thomson Greig, 41, both of New York City, and Edgar Anthony Zaloom, 43, of Chicago, the official said. A 1955 law had barred foreign lawyers from practicing in Japan.
