Kyong Song of Point Loma Nazarene College finished second in the hammer throw Thursday in the NAIA track and field championships at Russellville, Ark.
Song, a junior from Korea, threw the hammer 179 feet 9.75 inches. Jon Torrence of Central Washington won with a throw of 187-7.
Two other Point Loma Nazarene athletes had top times in qualifying events Thursday. Kris Andersson, a sophomore from Sweden, had the day's best time in the 400-meter hurdles at 52.25 seconds. Phil Williams' time of 14.10 in the 100-meter hurdles was also the day's best.
The competition continues today and runs through Saturday.
