The opening of a replacement for the fire-ravaged Central Library moved a step closer when the Los Angeles City Council approved the lease for a temporary facility in the old Bullock's building at 7th Street and Broadway. Once approved by Mayor Tom Bradley, the lease will allow library workers to begin moving about 1.5 million volumes into the former department store, where they are expected to be housed for the next 4 1/2 years until the damaged library is renovated and enlarged.
