Amnesty International accused Turkey of sending hundreds of Iranians seeking political asylum back to their homeland to face possible imprisonment, torture or even death. The London-based human rights organization said Turkey is "failing in its international obligations" and "breaking assurances that its policy was not to return forcibly any Iranian who articulates a fear of persecution" in neighboring Iran. In the past six months, the organization said, it has received reports that some 400 Iranians had been summarily returned to Iran.
