Microsemi Will Acquire Rectifier Assembly Unit

June 09, 1987

Microsemi Corp. of Santa Ana has agreed to purchase the San Diego-based high-voltage rectifier assembly operations of Solitron Devices Inc. for an undisclosed sum. A rectifier converts alternating current to direct current.

Microsemi Chairman Philip Frey Jr. said the acquisition will expand Microsemi's existing line of rectifiers to include high-voltage assemblies used primarily as power sources for radio transmitters and radar installations.

Although he declined to disclose the value of the transaction, Frey characterized it as "a relatively minor acquisition" for Microsemi, which reported revenues of $38.7 million and net income of $5.5 million for its 1986 fiscal year.

Microsemi said it will relocate Solitron's rectifier assembly operations in San Diego to an existing Microsemi facility in northern San Diego County. Solitron is based in Riviera Beach, Fla.
