PLO Reports Meeting With Israelis in Tunis

June 11, 1987|From Reuters

TUNIS, Tunisia — Senior members of the Palestine Liberation Organization met in Hungary on Wednesday with Israelis defying Israeli law by taking part in the talks, the PLO said.

Salah Khalaf, a senior aide to PLO chief Yasser Arafat, told reporters the talks began with a preliminary session of delegation leaders and that a full-scale meeting is to follow today.

About 20 Israeli leftists, headed by Communist parliamentary deputy Charlie Bitton, are in Budapest for the talks. The five-man PLO delegation includes two members of the PLO executive committee, Mahmoud Abbas, known as Abu Mazen, and Abderrazak Yahia.
