Three Santa Monica High School volleyball players, seniors Tagore Evans and Greg Eilber and sophomore Mike Sealy, were named to the All-Ocean League first team by a vote of coaches.
Second-team selections are seniors Cameron Davis of Beverly Hills High, Mike Dauberman of Culver City High and Randy Gerrin and Eric Etebari and junior Ryan Moos, all of Santa Monica High.
Junior Lisa Hardy of Santa Monica High School and sophomore Tricia Waayers of Hawthorne High shared player of the year honors in Ocean League softball, and Culver City junior Yvonne Gutierrez was named the most outstanding player by a vote of coaches.
All-league first-team selections included Beverly Hills senior Jennifer Grennell, Santa Monica sophomore Yvonne Zuniga and sophomores Ginger Atencio, Helene Davidson and Melissa Punch and junior Mary Sanchez, all of Culver City.
Those named to the second team included sophomore Tiffany Harward and junior Tina Pirzadeh of Beverly Hills, sophomore Janice Chabola of Culver City and freshman Stacy Berman and sophomores Barbara Carlson and Melissa Ree d , all of Santa Monica.
Luis Tielemans, a Hollywood High School senior, was named to the All-Los Angeles City 3-A volleyball third team.
Jeff Klaparda, a touring tennis professional and former star at UCLA and Fairfax High School, won the men's singles championship, and Shandra Livingston captured women's singles in the Michelob Light West Coast Tennis Championships. The tournament raised funds for the Crenshaw District Tennis Assn. to help ranked junior players with tournament expenses.
Dr. Don Hester, an orthopedic surgeon and president of the Santa Monica Marina Masters Swim Club, set two national records in the breaststroke for the 60-64 age group at the Masters short course national championships at Palo Alto. Hester, 60, posted record times of 33:01 at 50 yards and 1:16:02 in the 100 and won the 200 breaststroke in 2:52.
Other top performances at the meet by members of the Westside club included a first in the 1,650-yard freestyle by Craig Nadel in the 25-29 group, first by Jason Walker as a relay team member and by Peter O'Keefe in the backstroke (both 35-39), a top-10 finish in the breaststroke by Sam Sanders (50-54), top-20 finishes by Kathy Conte in the 500 and 200 freestyles (40-44) and a personal best by George Brinton in the backstroke (60-64).
