Lynwood : Trade of Transit Funds OKd

June 18, 1987

The Lynwood City Council has approved the trading of $500,000 in Proposition A funds, the half-cent county sales tax for transit projects, for the same amount of federal dollars. The money will be used as part of a proposed $5-million reconstruction project along Long Beach Boulevard, which is a major street in the city.

The exchange was approved earlier by the county Transportation Commission, which distributes funds among cities and county areas according to a formula based on population.

The Proposition A funds can only be used for transit-related projects. The city has been able to accumulate about $3 million for the Long Beach Boulevard project, which is expected to start next year.

The project apparently will be completed in phases, as the city acquires the needed funds, said Joe Wang, city engineer.
