Hart Termed 'Open to Offer' on His Capitol Hill Townhouse

June 18, 1987|From a Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON — A Capitol Hill townhouse with a history may soon be up for sale.

Former Democratic Sen. Gary Hart's Washington home, where he allegedly spent a weekend with 29-year-old model Donna Rice, is "open to an offer," Hart's real estate broker said Wednesday.

The house "has everything," said Terri Robinson of Robinson Real Estate Inc.

"It's a very nice three-story townhouse: two bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, two fireplaces--and a garage, as you know."

The probable price? "Mid $300s," Robinson said.

Hart and his wife, Lee, have not yet decided to sell the house, Robinson said. "It's really not listed for sale," she said. "But they're open to an offer."

Hart abandoned his presidential candidacy May 8 after the Miami Herald reported that he had carried on an extramarital affair with Rice. The former senator denied the story and said Rice had left the townhouse through the rear garage.

The Harts have announced plans to live in Colorado, where Hart is working as an attorney and looking for ways to pay off $1.6 million in campaign debts.
