Washington Mayor Marion Barry, reacting to a television report about his relationship with convicted drug dealer Karen K. Johnson, repeated his assertions that he has never had an intimate relationship with Johnson or used cocaine. A report broadcast by WUSA-TV said that Johnson has told prosecutors that she sold cocaine to the mayor on 20 to 30 occasions and used cocaine with him several times. The television report also alleged that in a handwritten diary it obtained, Johnson had written of a former sexual relationship with the mayor.
