Foreign investment in the U.S. rose 13.4% in 1986.

Britain, the Netherlands and Japan accounted for almost three-fourths of the increase, the Commerce Department reported. It said direct foreign investment climbed to $209.3 billion at the end of 1986, up $24.7 billion from 1985, with a wave of takeovers contributing to the increased investment by foreign firms.
