More on Lite Romance

July 19, 1987

Though I irrefutably kissed a veritable army of toads before marrying at 30, it is difficult to sympathize with Elin Guthrie and Stacy Wilson. If a man is so interesting that an invitation is accepted, shouldn't these women refrain from passing judgment until after the first date? Are their egos so fragile, their values so shallow, that the end result of an evening meant for fun and discovery is determined by the color of their escort's socks? Ignore what's on the surface (I know it's not the L.A. thing to do), concentrate on the depth of a man's character--and possibly find someone who is well worth an occasional shopping expedition to select new socks for.
