2nd Body Found Near Coronado Beach

July 22, 1987

The second body in two days was discovered Tuesday near Silver Strand State Beach in Coronado, the San Diego County coroner's office reported. Authorities believe the bodies are those of two men who attempted to swim across the Tijuana River recently and were washed out to sea.

A man walking his dog found the body on the beach at 6:15 a.m., about 1 1/2 miles north of the Imperial Beach city line, Deputy Coroner Robert Engel said.

A body had been found in the same area on Monday, Engel said.

The two men are probably the same ones who were swept out to sea Saturday night as they tried to cross the Tijuana River, Engel said. A witness told police that he tried to help the men but the current was too strong.

The witness identified the two men as Ishmiel Ayala and Ron, last name unknown.
