The Nation

July 22, 1987

Congresswomen said at a news conference it is a myth that women have made it in America in the 1980s, citing a new sourcebook on the economic situation of women and their role in the family. The book, "The American Woman 1987-88: A Report in Depth," was put together by the research arm of the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues. "I can't remember anything this depressing. . . . I think the most chilling line is that women college graduates who worked full time year-round are earning on a par with high-school male dropouts," said Rep. Barbara B. Kennelly (D-Conn.).
