Maybe Lakers Can Visit White House in 1988

July 25, 1987

Excuse me for asking, but why weren't the Lakers invited to the White House this year after winning the NBA championship, as the Celtics were last year?

Could it be because their intelligence, integrity and work ethic far outshine most of our leaders living and working the nation's capital, or is it just the usual, all-pervasive Ronald Reagan answer: "I forgot."

Editor's note: The Lakers were invited to the White House, according to a Laker spokesman, but scheduling difficulties, including the President's then - recent return from the Venice Summit, made the visit impractical. However, the Laker spokesman said the team will be pleased to visit the White House in 1988.
