The Duarte Community and Education Foundation, a private, nonprofit organization that raises funds for community and school activities, has elected new officers for fiscal 1987-88.

They are Jim Kirchner, president; Don Wilson, vice president; Yolanda Bowers, secretary, and Jan Wight, treasurer. Kirchner is vice chairman of the Duarte Cable Community Commission, Wight is a board member of the Duarte Unified School District and Bowers is the wife of a school board member.

The foundation board of trustees includes Aliya Gordon, Ricardo Sauque, school board member Dennis Verhagen, City Councilman Merv Money, former Councilman Monty Montgomery and Bonnie Randall.

Last year, the foundation donated $5,000 to the elementary school substance abuse program and $20,000 to the Duarte High School athletic field improvement project, which will begin this summer. The city has donated $20,000 to the field project and the school district has given $86,000.

The foundation receives its income through donations, pledges, memberships and fund-raising activities.
