DEL MAR — Zany Tactics, ridden by Jack Kaenel, took the lead entering the stretch and held on to win by a neck in the $54,250 Pat O'Brien Handicap Saturday at Del Mar.

Bold Smoocher, ridden by Gary Stevens, finished second, 1 3/4 lengths in front of Bolder Than Bold, ridden by Gary Baze.

Zany Tactics raced the seven furlongs in 1:21 1/5 and paid $5.40, $3.80 and $2.40. Bold Smoocher returned $7 and $2.60, and Bolder Than Bold paid $2.20 to show.

Zany Tactics battled for the early lead and held off Bold Smoocher through the final furlong. Bolder than Bold rallied wide into the stretch and appeared to be a threat a furlong out, then tired.
