Record cool temperatures chilled the Midwest, with cold air streaming from Canada dropping morning low temperatures into the 40s and lower 50s from the northern and central Rockies across the Great Lakes to the Ohio Valley. Afternoon highs were only in the 50s and 60s from eastern North Dakota across the Great Lakes to the northern and central Appalachians, the National Weather Service said. Records lows were set in at least seven cities in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Texas.
