I read with great interest your articles on the influence of wine writers.
As the owner of the Matador Restaurant during the late 1950s and 1960s, I frequently came in contact with Chroman, and all of my experiences were positive ones.
Chroman was a frequent customer at my restaurant. He never received--or ever insinuated--that he wanted a free meal.
I am very sorry that the Los Angeles Times is discontinuing Chroman's column.
