Hermosa Beach : Emergency Gun Law OKd

September 10, 1987

The City Council unanimously approved an emergency ordinance making it illegal to threaten someone with a replica of a firearm, citing numerous freeway shootings and threats with fake guns.

Violation of the ordinance is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

The council approved the ordinance, which is effective immediately, at the request of the County Board of Supervisors, which passed a similar ordinance Aug. 25. A similar bill has been passed by the Legislature and is awaiting the governor's signature.
