FALL HIGHLIGHTS : Chaminade Girls Ace Brentwood

The Chaminade High girls tennis team opened its season in convincing fashion at the Northridge Tennis Club on Wednesday, posting a 105-33 victory over Brentwood.

Chaminade's No. 1 singles player, Abigail Villenak, swept three sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and its No. 2 singles player, Sarah Eipe, won her matches, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1.

GIRLS CROSS-COUNTRY

Agoura 28, Buena 29--Freshman Deena Drossin finished first to lead the Chargers to a season-opening win.

Drossin ran the three-mile course in 19 minutes, 43 seconds. Agoura freshman Tiffany York placed second in 21:30 and Tally Rowland was fourth at 22:39.

BOYS CROSS-COUNTRY

Agoura 25, Buena 32--Bryan Dameworth and Peter Oviatt placed first and second, respectively, to pace the Chargers' victory.

Dameworth finished in 16:29, followed by Oviatt in 17:18.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Burroughs d. Notre Dame, 15-13, 13-15, 15-7, 15-7--Allison Wagner served for 17 points and Debbie Penney had 18 kills in the Indians' win.

Burroughs improved its record to 2-0.

Newbury Park d. Agoura, 15-5, 9-15, 15-9, 5-15, 15-3--The Panthers needed five sets to post their third victory of the season. Marlo Cormier had seven of Newbury Park's 18 service aces and teammate Camille Mitchell had 12 kills.

MEN'S CROSS-COUNTRY

Master's 19, Whittier 49, Christ 52--Jeff Claassen finished first to lead Master's in the Vanguard Invitational in Costa Mesa.

Claassen ran the 5,000-meter course in 14:44. Phil Duncan of Master's finished second in 14:45 followed by Matt Newey in 15:45.

WOMEN'S CROSS-COUNTRY

Master's 20, Whittier 37, Christ 42--Master's opened its season with a victory in the Vanguard Invitational in Costa Mesa.

Master's runners finished in each of the first three spots. Kim Fish finished first, running the 5,000-meter course in 19:32. Marlys Newey placed second in 19:52, followed by Cynthia Morgan in third in 20:13.
