September 16, 1987

A group of firms led by investor Asher B. Edelman has a 3.7% stake in Foster Wheeler Corp. and may attempt to take over the company, the group has disclosed. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the group indicated that it held about 1.3 million of Foster Wheeler's 34.83 million common shares outstanding. The group stated that if it acquired control of Foster Wheeler it intended to conduct a review of the company's business and assets, which could result in the sale of certain properties and businesses. Foster Wheeler, which is based in Livingston, N.J., is involved in engineering and constructing power generating plants, chemical and petroleum process plants and other industrial equipment.
