Funeral services for Hiram E. Bond were held Wednesday at St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. Bond, a senior vice president of Arco who was active in the Long Beach business community, died Friday at his Rancho Palos Verdes home, apparently of a heart attack. He was 62.
Bond served as Arco Transportation Co. president at the division's headquarters in Long Beach from 1981 until July, when he began performing special assignments for the company. He had announced that he would retire early next year.
He was born in Texas and held a degree in mechanical engineering from Rice University. He joined Arco in 1948.
Bond served on a number of boards including the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, St. Mary Medical Center, United Way and the Regional Arts Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Eugenie; two daughters, Ellen Coulson and Teresa Pfeiffer; a son, Hiram E. Bond Jr., and his mother, Lulu.
