Polish Climber Killed on Himalayan Peak

KATMANDU, Nepal — A Polish climber was killed Tuesday by an avalanche on 27,940-foot Mt. Lhotse in the Nepalese Himalayas, Tourism Ministry officials said Wednesday.

Expedition doctor Czeslaw Jakiel was climbing toward the first high-altitude camp when he and two teammates were struck by an avalanche at about 17,500 feet. Jakiel was killed
