Boyd doesn't understand that part of the Pope's popularity can be attributed to John Paul II's steadfast and uncanny ability to keep his story straight.
Boyd is part of a socially and morally bankrupt element within the Episcopal Church which espouses the idea that anything goes. I would say he is a writer-priest-in-residence at the anarchic "Church of What's Happening Now."
Boyd seems to envy the Pope's magnetism and ability to draw a big crowd. Me thinks Boyd doth protest too much.
